I am currently working on chapter fourteen of Lord of the Black Mountain. I’ve already completed chapters thirteen and fifteen. How did I manage this feat? Well, expecting me to write events in a linear fashion is pretty much a waste of time!
In this case, what’s now chapter fifteen started out as chapter fourteen. It was the pov of a single character (Teren, the sister of one of the male leads). It ends with a vaguely ominous threat from Teren’s mom. (Who is not happy about the diplomatic incident caused by Caris and Teren.) So that was then-chapter fifteen.
So after I finished that chapter I started working on the chapter I thought was going to be chapter fifteen. And I don’t get very far until I go, “wait, the last line with Teren implies that Jhan is already in the kingdom and on his way to the capitol. This chapter is about Jhan’s trip to Sewen though, so it should go before?” This of course resulted in some flailing, but after some adventures with cut and paste and rearranged everything so fifteen was fourteen, and fourteen will eventually be fifteen.

In other vaguely related news, I have commissioned a cover for Lord of the Black Mountain. I am most of the way through paying for it! I am extremely excited about this, because I adore Rah’s art. (I need to see if she has an online portfolio I can direct traffic to.)
