his update was going to come out around New Year’s but too much was happening around New Year’s! Most of the too much was of course, people setting off so many firecrackers, my dog ended up singing the blues about it. (The noise may also been the reason he had extremely active doggy dreams that seemed to involve a lot of sleep barking and leg flailing.) New Year’s Day and several days after, people were still setting off firecrackers. At one point, I took my dog out around four a.m. and I swear there a haze under the street lights from the gunpowder, as well as an incredible stink. The neighbors wanted to be very, very thorough in scaring away evil spirits!
My glasses fell apart, and it took me a while to actually set up an appointment. (I dislike going to the doctor and have an aversion to doing so. This is something I’m still working on, and it has definitely improved over the years. Mostly because of the amateur hour exposure therapy of getting various exams I’ve needed for various problems I have.) Anyway, I was able to order some new glasses that will hopefully help with the macular degeneration. Because my prescription is “complicated” I am going to have to wait a couple weeks.
I have opted this time around to not bother with the lens-thinning. (In hopes the prescription takes less time, and also because even thinned down, my lenses are very thick.) This is also so it it more clear to people that no, I can’t see the street sign/the menu on the wall in the fast food restaurant and so on.
The game group is going pretty well. RPG Group Guy is “no longer with the company,” so now we are playing board games. Specifically a game called Settlers of Catan. (We may end up playing other board games, which I don’t mind so long as we don’t play Clue or Monopoly.) It’s only two hours to play, and we also have to do some group-work, but it’s been fun, despite my woeful inability to pick areas that will regularly get me resources. (Each resource tile has a number on it placed at random. Dice are rolled to determine who gets what resources. You can also trade resources and so on.) Random point of annoyance: Ports only trade one resource.

Hyo the Hellmaker, by Mina Ikemoto Ghosh: I like it so far! I have a partial review written up. I am about 57% of the way through the book.
Installment Immortality, by Seanan McGuire: An InCryptid novel. I have not read it yet.
(Yes, I need to get more Galleys. My only excuse is that I have been Very Distracted, and also Tired.)
Library Haul:
The Sumage Solution by G.L. Carriger: I couldn’t get very far into this. Didn’t care for the setting, didn’t like the characters or worldbuilding that much.
Sleep No More, by Seanan McGuire: Toby Daye novel! Our Protagonist has had her brain scrubbed and has been given a personality revamp that is fairly horrifying!
Gods of Nabban and The Last Road by K.V. Johansen: Of this series I liked Gods of Nabban the best. I find The Last Road to be the most difficult of the series, and wasn’t able to finish it the first two times I read it. I am determined to finish it this time around. Note: My aversion has nothing to do with the quality of the writing. I am just bouncing hard off most of the plot.
Re-writing and worldbuilding for Lord of the Black Mountain continues, and I plan to start doing 30 minute pomodoro sprints. (Fifteen minutes is not actually enough time to get into swing.) Some of the sprints may or may not take place in the Black Mountain setting. I may also try to write some of my other OCs. (Though in order to do that, I would need to redo all of the worldbuilding. Again.)
