This Update Has Test Anxiety

So, Tuesday I had to have a pulmonary function test, which involved blowing air into various plastic tubes and having testing anxiety. Because as they say, scoring well on a test that’s intended to find out how bad your lungs are is normal to want, and possible to achieve.

(I got an A in “can’t breathe out as long as I am apparently expected to breathe out by the tech,” and Bs in in Squeaky Wheezing and “Turning the Mouthpiece of the Tube Into a Kazoo.”)

The next two weeks are going to be packed with various appointments including:

  • Weekly visit to chiropractor for my back
  • First visit to a podiatrist to see what’s going on with my foot/heel/Achilles tendon. (They feel like someone beat them with a stick. I am extremely self conscious about the condition of my toe nails and feet, so this is going to be super fun!)
  • Appointment to go to my C-Pap place to get a new C-Pap. (This is a device that blows air into your lungs, and is a treatment for sleep apnea. I used to have a super hard time sleeping at night due to the entire “woke up because I can’t breathe” thing. The C-Pap helps.
  • A visit to the SMI clinic to talk to team/a case manager from my team.
  • A home visit from the autism clinic.
  • The social skills group cleverly disguised as a TTRPG campaign. (was not able to attend this week because not feeling well.)
  • The social skills group cleverly disguised as playing various board games. (was likewise unable to attend because of not feeling well.)

I am currently on some new pain pills and a muscle relaxant that have the side effect of making be extremely drowsy. This has made writing or getting anything done a little bit difficult! Most of the writing I’ve done lately has been book reviews and meta posts. (Most of the meta posts have been about Martha Wells’ writing. There are probably more Martha Wells’ meta posts in the future because I am pretty much obsessing over the world building of Wells’ various settings.)

I have managed to write a little more of Lord of the Black Mountain, and more recently, I started a fan fic. I am hoping to get more original and fan writing done. There are a bunch of WIPS (works in progress) I would like to work on. It’s just that my head feels like it’s stuffed full of cotton thanks to my meds.

The current Net Galley book I’m reading is Archangels of Funk by Andrea Hairston. It is slightly hard to read, because the writing is essentially a prose poem that was meant to be read aloud. Or at least, that’s the impression I’m getting. The setting is very solar punk sf/fantasy and takes place after some variety of environmental collapse and a conflict referred to as “the Water Wars.” I need to get back to reading it, and then writing the review, but again, my head feels like it’s been stuffed full of cotton.
