Bloganuary: Describe an item you were incredibly attached to as a (youth). What happened to it?

I have not owned many “items” that would fit this description. And the items that might fit the description–I’m not sure I was ever really that attached to. Generally not toys, as I was never given toys that I ever actually wanted. (The toys I was interested were Boy-Coded which meant that I could not play with them or express an interest in them.) Clothes…maybe. Though again, there are only a few possible items that might fit the requirements. Books…same thing. I might have to do multiple things?

The “Milkshake Armistice” Shirt

I had a love-hate relationship with this shirt. It was light blue with a black line drawing of two kids, a boy and a girl, sharing a milkshake in an ice cream parlor. Now, it should be noted that the kids in this picture have notably sulky expressions and ragged clothes that could indicate a recent fight. In addition, the girl seems to have a black eye! IIRC, the boy may have sported similar injuries. This was apparently Very Alarming for teachers at school, IIRC. Mom however insisted that the girl was wearing eye makeup. (Which doesn’t actually make sense.)

My liking of the shirt tended to vary by whether I thought the boy won or the girl won and what I thought they might have been fighting about. Also, if I thought they had made up on their own, or if the milkshake they were sharing was a “get along” milkshake. As one does.

Its Fate: I am pretty sure I wore it until it was relegated to “pajama shirt” and eventually into rags, after which it was tossed.

The Darth Vader T-Shirt

As can be guessed from the name, this was a Star Wars T-Shirt. The only bit of Star Wars Memorabilia I ever got as a child. This is because I was not a boy. I had matchbox cars but not a lightsaber. So much sadness. (No I have no idea why I got matchbox cars, nor do I have any idea who might have given them to me.) I have no idea who gave me the T-Shirt. I am like 85% sure it was Aunt C. This doesn’t quite make sense though, because a) girl b) the only gift I remember from Aunt C is a Barbie Doll. (I had several Barbies. They tended to have Cozy Apocalypse Adventures.)

Its Fate: Faded to a shadow and outgrown

The Purple Space Tunic

No, the tunic did not have a picture of space on it. This was a tunic I saw at a clothing store that I immediately lusted after. It was the Purple Space Tunic because it looked like something that should be an alien or futuristic costume on Star Trek. I was in awe of its bizarre configuration and purple color. (No I can’t describe it. I seem to remember that the neckline was square and the sleeves could be removed.)

It was also too small, and there didn’t seem to be anything in my size. However, I really wanted that darn tunic, and somehow I managed to get it. I think I was able to squeeze into a couple times?

It’s Fate: When it was absolutely too small, it got thrown out.

The Yellow Knit Poncho

(Actually, it was more of a shawl with buttons.) So, I utterly adored the Yellow Knit Poncho. It’s was warm and comfy and I could leave my arms out or cover them up. Unfortunately, no one else adored my Yellow Knit Poncho and I got made fun of a lot by other kids at school for wearing a “grandma shawl.”

Its Fate: I am not sure? I think it got torn and then tossed at some point?
