Oh look, another question that can be vaguely related or twisted to my writing blog’s main purpose. (This is a writing and book review blog, primarily.) Though in this case, I guess this post is going to be more of an extended elevator speech.
The main purpose of my blog is for book reviews and writing meta essays about the books I’ve read. It’s also to discuss writing as a hobby/profession (though more a hobby as I don’t have any published experience aside from a brief and stressful stint writing for a content mill) and the use of tropes in fiction. I also post my own fiction/prompts whenever I find an interesting one. (I am very picky and these are typically short.) My main experience in writing fiction is actually fan fiction, though I have many (incomplete) original fiction plots and settings. (Note: I have even more fan fiction WIPs) Sometimes I complain about not being able to write. While writing about not being able to write.
I occasionally write about things that are happening in my life, and also my experiences with navigating my state’s housing and mental health services. I am an autistic who had previously gone undiagnosed through most of their life and was only screened for autism in the past few years. (It was good to get the confirmation! Very validating! Still very annoying because my SMI (seriously mentally ill) provider at the time refused to add it to my diagnosis and kept “losing it.”) Yes, the scare quotes indicate that I think they were lying. Is my suspicion any reflection on reality? I don’t know, and also don’t care, I’m now with a different provider! Who I think I might like better!
I am somewhat starting relate stories surrounding my adventures with dealing with mental health services, being on disability, and generally have a lot of exasperating tics and twitches. (Some of the tics and twitches are not metaphorical.) I also discuss difficulties with relatives and Various Ridiculous Things That Have Happened To Me.
I’d like to do more general and everyday posts, because those can be pretty interesting (I am a long time lurker fan of John Scalzi’s Whatever blog.) Probably not so much current events. Unless it had to do with disabilities or mental health. Maybe unions? I don’t know.
