So I was planning on reposting some of my meta posts from the old WordPress blog. I did not bother archiving the old blog before nuking it because I thought I had everything saved on either Google Docs or on one of my hard drives. (Spoiler: I did not have everything saved.)
Now, first I discovered that the book reviews on my hard drive and also google docs are missing. After some scrambling, I was able to find and copy some of them, because I had also put them up on Goodreads. I have been working on scheduling them! (At least the ones that I still like, or that I can edit/work on.)
I have since discovered that much like my book review folder for that time period, the meta folder was ALSO empty. So now I guess I have an opportunity to completely rewrite them? Because I can’t find them anywhere. (Not even on Goodreads.)
Basically, I don’t have them on my hard drives and Google ate what I was storing on Google Drive/Google Docs. (This is why I don’t really use or even like Google Drive. Stuff disappears. This does not happen with Evernote, which I vastly prefer.)
So I am going to definitely have to rewrite the meta, which is not necessarily a bad thing because there is absolutely nothing I’ve written in the past that couldn’t be improved. Also, there are some things I can expand on that I did not expand upon previously.
Anyway, a few examples of my previous posts, that I plan on rewriting at some point:
- I analyzed the marriage and divorce of Vlad and Cawti from Steven Brust’s Dragaera novels. My inspiration for this post was Way Too Many Dude Fans saying Cawti was at fault for the divorce. (My position is that. Um. They were both very young and infatuated and didn’t know each other well so their marriage deteriorated rapidly when confronted with the issue that they are very different people who don’t believe the same things. It is both their fault.) Given that there have been several more books since that initial post, I think it could do with an update/rewrite.
- I did a post about worldbuilding that involved a description of my habit of comparing and contrasting the interior logic of two different story universes. (Basically, a writer’s worldview shapes how their universe in-story works. And if you can “drop” the details of one author’s setting in another author’s setting you can see where the interior logic breaks down.)
- I may or may not have written a post about crossovers and other alternate universe themes in Fan fic, but I’m not sure if it actually ended up on the old WordPress blog or not. If I did not write this, I probably should. Eventually.
- I made silly posts about various authors’ works that may or may not also be on my dreamwidth. (Given my track record for knowing where the heck my stuff is, I am not entirely certain.)
- I may or may not have written meta or a book review for Jessie Hajicek’s The God Eaters. (I may have done a review of the webcomic Metanoia. Which I also recommend.)
I will probably start working on them again eventually.
